Sustainability is fundamentally about achieving a balance between environmental supervision, economic growth, and social equity. It operates on the foundational belief that decisions made today should not restrict the choices of future generations. Defined in the Brundtland Report as the ability to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987), sustainability integrates long-term ecological health, economic stability, and social equity into a cohesive strategy.
