WP6 – Performance and Impact Assessment

The main objective of this work package is to quantify the environmental impacts associated with the main actions of the project in a reliable and objective manner through the application of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology in accordance with ISO 14040 and 14044 standards.

In particular, the LCA methodology will be applied to assess the environmental impacts associated with the planned green hydrogen plant, thus modelling the PEM electrolyser and the photovoltaic system to power the electrolyser. This will be possible through accurate and continuous data collection by the LCA working group staff, who will interact continuously with the other project partners. The same method will be used to accurately model the high-pressure compression system, the hydrogen loading line, the containerised tube trailers, the pipeline and the hydrogen refuelling stations in Mantua’s hydrogen valley.

The results of the LCA study applied to each of the above-mentioned project phases will allow the actual contributions of the project activities to the KPIs relating to environmental impacts to be monitored in a quantitative and objective manner.
The assessment of social aspects in terms of both positive and negative impacts along the value chain will be carried out following the “Guidelines for the Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) of Products” and using the Social Hotspot Database integrated into the SimaPro LCA software.
