This work package has the main objective to quantify the environmental impacts associated to the main actions of the project in a trustworthy and objective manner through the application of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology according to the ISO 14040 and 14044.
Particularly the LCA methodology will be applied to assess the environmental impacts associated to the planned green hydrogen plant, thus modelling the PEM electrolyser as well as the PV system to feed the electrolyser. This will be possible by an accurate and continuous data collection by LCA working group personnel who will continuously interact with the other partners of the project. The same will be performed to accurately model the high-pressure compressor system, the hydrogen loading line, the containerised tube-trailers, the pipeline as well as the hydrogen refuelling stations in the Mantova hydrogen valley.
The results of the LCA study applied to each of the above-mentioned phases of the project will allow to monitor the effective contributions of the project tasks to the KPIs related to environmental impacts in a quantitative and objective manner.
The evaluation of the social aspects in terms of both positive and negative impacts along the value chain will be carried out following the “Guidelines Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) of Products” and using the Social Hotspot Database integrated in the SimaPro LCA software.
